Alphawood Gallery 2401 North Halsted Street Chicago, IL 60614
A night of performances, teach-ins and calls to action by Chicago artists, educators and community organizers, in the first public event of Alphawood Gallery’s “Then They Came For Me,” an exhibition about the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII. Speakers include renowned political activist and commentator Don Washington, Illinois State Rep. Will Guzzardi – 39th District and Logan Square immigration and refugee rights activist Anthony Quezada. Featuring performances by comedian Meg Indurti, storytelling with Owais Ahmed, poetry from Payal Kumar, music from Sen Morimoto, and taiko from Ho Etsu Taiko.

MBT Bon Odori
Saturday, July 8, 8-10 p.m.
Midwest Buddhist Temple, 435 W. Menomonee St, Chicago, IL 60614
Join us for Japanese folk dance and taiko! Bon Odori is one of the most widely celebrated and colorful of the Buddhist observances. On a summer evening, under traditional lanterns, temple members and friends (and the general public is welcome) gather to show appreciation to past loved ones through music and dance. Visit our Bon Odori page to learn the history of this event which is celebrated by Buddhists around the world. Note: Ho Etsu members will participate in Obon to play taiko everyone can dance to but this isn’t a full taiko show.

World of Faeries Festival

Ginza Holiday Festival
Aug. 11-13
Midwest Buddhist Temple, 435 W. Menomonee St, Chicago, IL 60614
An annual favorite, the Ginza Holiday Festival is a summer event featuring Japanese food, culture, entertainment and taiko. This year’s Saturday evening show will include a joint performance by Ho Etsu and Midwest Buddhist Temple Taiko.

Japanese Summer Festival at Anderson Japanese Gardens
Aug. 19-20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Japanese Summer Festival features exhibits, demonstrations and performances for all ages, including taiko, dance, tea ceremonies, origami and children’s games.
