Taiko I & Taiko II Workshops – Winter 2020

Please note that Taiko I will be held on Thursdays and Taiko II will be held on Fridays. Both classes consist of 5 sessions for a cost of $150. There is also a discounted bundle option for those hardcore students who want to take both classes at once for $250. Can’t make our Winter Sessions? We have already scheduled our Spring Sessions starting at the end of March – look for information coming soon.

Winter 2020 Taiko I & Taiko II Workshops:

Taiko Foundation I consists of 5 (five) Thursday evening sessions starting on January 30th, 2020. Students should be able to attend at least 4 of the 5 sessions.

In this 5 week class we will cover basic technique, including how to hit and stand at the drum, musical listening techniques, and simple taiko songs and games. No musical experience necessary! This class is a perfect introduction to taiko. There is also an opportunity to have a mini-recital during the second half of the last class (March 5th) for family and friends.

Sessions will be held on the following dates from 7:00- 9:00 pm. Please note that classes are on consecutive Thursdays except for February 27th – there is no class on this day.

    • January 30
    • February 6
    • February 13
    • February 20
    • March 5

Taiko Foundation II – technique and collaborative composition consists of 5 (five) Friday evening sessions starting on January 31st, 2020. Students should be able to attend at least 4 of the 5 sessions.

It is recommended that you’ve taken a Beginner’s class with us prior to signing up for this course. This course will have two main goals: 1) to improve beta technique through intensive drill work, and 2) to learn to approach taiko as an outlet for musical expression through creative and improvisational exercises. The first half of each class will focus on drills and conditioning; the second half of each class will focus on creative games and composing a piece with your peers. This class has the opportunity to culminate in a mini-recital for friends and family during the 2nd half of our final class (week 5, March 6th).

Taiko Foundation II sessions will be held on the following dates from 7:00- 9:00 pm. Please note that classes are on consecutive Fridays except for February 28th – there is no class on this day.
